Sergi Puig (1989) is a composer born in Badalona (Spain) and currently living between Paris, Graz and Barcelona. His musical training encompasses several genres, including a higher degree in audio and sound systems, four years of jazz and modern music at the Taller de Músics in Barcelona and bachelor studies in composition at the Conservatori Superior del Liceu with professors Ramon Humet and Benet Casablancas, where he received the Award for Academic Distinction in his discipline. In 2019 Sergi moved to Graz, where he completed with honours the Master of Composition at the Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst with Professor Beat Furrer. In 2023 he received the Musikförderungspreis der Stadt Graz and is currently pursuing a second master's degree with Professor Annesley Black.

During his training he had notable premieres, such as ‘ANON’ for ensemble - a piece selected in the call for young composers of the Plural Ensemble - conducted by Fabián Panisello, or ‘Parasomnia’ for chamber orchestra conducted by Beat Furrer. More recent projects include ‘HADES’ with the ensemble Between Feathers, a monodrama based on chapter 6 of James Joyce's Ulysses, premiered in Vienna and with concerts in Dublin and Graz. ‘Nostalghia’ for solo violin, premiered at the ATTACCA Festival in Basel, performed by María Alejandra Jiménez or his first string quartet ‘viene da lontano’ performed by the Quatuor Diotima during the IMPULS Festival 2023.

With a special interest in vocal and scenic music, as well as interdisciplinary projects, his collaborations with the choreographer Silvia Batet are remarkable, such as ‘Requiem’, premiered at the Russafa Escènica in Valencia, or ‘Oblivion’, winning piece of the Premi de Dansa IT 2020, premiered at the Festival GREC 2021 in Barcelona and with more than 30 concerts at national and international festivals. In 2022, he received the OSIC grant from the Department of Culture of Catalonia with the project ‘Twenty-Four Hokku on a Modern Theme’, a piece for soprano and double bass with text by Amy Lowell, which was premiered in October 2023 in Barcelona performed by the Japanese soprano Karera Fujita and the French double bass player Louis Siracusa-Schneider.

In 2024 his piano trio ‘raum der natur’ has been awarded the International Composition Competition 2024 of the 12th International Competition ‘Franz Schubert and Modern Music’.

Recently he was also the winning composer in the III ARTSOM_Musical Competition Composition, including a premiere for string quartet and saxophone with Fabrik Quartet and Ricard Capellino at the Mostra Sonora in Sueca.

He is one of the composers selected for the Cursus de composition et d'informatique musicale 2024.25 at the Ircam in Paris
