POCKETEERS

Pocketeers is a work for prepared trumpet written for trumpeter Valentín Garvie. This version combines the audioscore with a performance video, allowing a direct correlation between the written processes and their physical realization on the instrument. The piece is based on the denaturalization of the trumpet’s sound through a prepared mouthpiece and physical modifications of the instrument. The removal of the second and third valve slides enables pure air-flow sounds. Together with the specific use of mutes, loosened valve springs, and controlled breath pressure, the trumpet becomes a generator of non-conventional sound materials that at times resemble electronic sources. Despite this radical transformation, the work remains strictly trumpet-based: both the writing and its execution are inseparable from the instrument itself. A central compositional aspect is the idea of resynthesis, articulated through rhythmic and timbral writing under stochastic constraints, conceptually inspired by analog techniques such as sample & hold and low-frequency modulation (LFO).
