Ryan Morgan is a London-based composer, performer, and educator whose work explores ritual, transpersonalism, and autonomous creativity. His music reimagines Western compositional traditions through an embodied practice rooted in vocal improvisation. Drawing on Ellen Dissanayake’s concept of proto-aesthetics, Ryan observes play behaviours in early years settings, such as repetition and exaggeration, and translates these first artistic impulses into his compositional methods. His work seeks immediacy of process and effect, fostering shared transformation between performer and audience.

He is the inaugural recipient of the London Mozart Players’ Samuel Coleridge-Taylor Prize and was commissioned to compose Tongue Stew for string orchestra and solo quartet, premiered as part of the Samuel Coleridge-Taylor 150th anniversary celebrations. He has also participated in the National Youth Choir’s EPA programme, with choral works Permission to Play and Obeah released on NMC’s Young Composer 7 album. Other commissions include a new AI Opera with Operactive Arts, pieces with the London Sinfonietta and Birmingham Opera Company.

Ryan studied Music at the University of Birmingham and completed a Master’s in Creative Practice / Practice Research at Goldsmiths, University of London. He now works across composition, performance, and education, currently serving as Head of Music, and views music as a living ritual of creativity, discovery, and transformation.
