- A “Parallax” is an effect where the position or direction of an object appears to differ across different points of view. For example, a passenger in a moving vehicle can observe trees passing by quickly, while distant mountains move slowly across the horizon. This parallax concept has fascinated me both in terms of its natural and philosophical connotations, which serve much of the inspiration for this work. Through its shifting yet intertwined thematic shapes, timbres, and melodic statements across three movements, this work aims to musically portray the parallax effect, encouraging the listener that perhaps a different perspective on issues can yield a new path forward. This work also serves as a reflection on a very busy and strained time of my life during my senior year of undergraduate studies, and how I adopted a more forward-thinking point of view.
