Yellow Jacket Strut

"Yellow Jacket Strut" was commissioned by the Iowa High School Jazz Band from Iowa, Louisiana (William Ishee Jr., Director) in the spring of 2022. The title is derived from the school’s mascot, the Yellow Jackets, and there are a few sections of the music that match the “stinging” nature of a yellow jacket. This is a standard funk chart that is perfectly suited for high school jazz bands, with plenty of opportunities to feature soloists and stretch the technical capabilities of young musicians.
