윤슬 (Ever-Changing) is a musical composition that merges the sounds of nature with instrumental experiments, creating a delicate and immersive soundscape. Central to the piece is an 8-key marimba, played with continuous dragging and tapping techniques guided by inventive graphic notation. These unique methods evoke the shimmering, ever-changing reflections of light on water—a phenomenon encapsulated by the Korean word “윤슬” (yoonseul).

The composition integrates field recordings from two distinctive locations:

The Wave Organ in San Francisco, an acoustic sculpture that transforms the movement of tides into resonant tones through PVC pipes. These recordings capture the interplay between waves and structure.

The Santa Clara River in Santa Clarita, California, which contributes the gentle flow and whispers of a natural waterway. These sounds are processed to seamlessly blend with the marimba’s resonances, creating a harmonious blend of organic and instrumental elements.
