- The Phaneron is a term coined by philosopher Charles Sanders Peirce, used to describe the aggregate sensory input to consciousness, or "the collective total of all that is in any sense present to the mind, quite regardless of whether it corresponds to any real thing or not." Here, illusion, reality, fakeness, and suspended disbelief occupy the same non-hierarchical space, compressed into one version of the truth, however impossible it might be.
