Paradigm Shift

A paradigm shift is defined as a major change in worldview, concepts, and practices of how something works or is accomplished. This accurately describes the nature of this piece. Through structure, harmony, and technique, it illustrates something very simple morphing into a more complex version of itself, while still retaining elements from its primitive form. In a more metaphorical sense, it is about perseverance and growth; overcoming challenges, adapting to change, and becoming better because of those experiences.

From a personal perspective, my paradigm shift is how I approach composing. There was a time I would think anything remotely out of the ordinary was distasteful, but as I have grown as a musician, I have learned that those are the things that make music interesting, and it is my job to apply them in ways that work for my music. Overcoming that barrier is eye opening, and allows for much more creativity, despite once thinking it was more restricting. This is piece represents my change of perspective in music and my growth because of it.
