The house I grew up in was built on the Hayward Fault. Tremors in my house often felt as common as rainfall. This piece was composed by transcribing various seismic sound recordings and bending, stretching and layering the resulting rhythms to create numerous polymetric and polyrhythmic structures. This work is for bass clarinet, looping pedals and various effects pedals such as delay, distortion, octave and reverb. It was originally written for Henry McNamara; however, his pedal setup can be adapted to other setups. I have included his notes on his looping setup. For a better sense of the sound of the various effects, listen to the reference recording.
