Banaue Rice Terraces

Banaue Rice Terraces is named after a landmark in the Philippines of the same name. They are man-made structures, having been carved into the slopes of the Cordillera mountain range nearly 2,000 years ago for the purpose of growing rice. Their unique, step-like appearance makes them a breathtaking sight and also serves as the inspiration for this piece. Repeating chords, which add and subtract notes, imitate the contour of the rice terraces as they ascend and descend the mountainside.
