Entity

Entity evolved from a collaborative experience with a talented flautist, in which we worked to adapt a technique from Salvatore Sciarrino’s L’opera per flauto - Canzona di ringraziamento (1985). The technique is transposed from the original; a new set of pitches gives it a unique timbre and determines the intervallic content of Entity. The colorful effect of this technique is imitated and

developed throughout the other instruments of the ensemble, as if the musicians are one organism, breathing together. The title Entity evokes the nature of the music itself; an ambiguous being that comes in and out of focus, an uncanny presence we feel, hear, even smell. It is something unsettling but wholly entrancing; once you finally see it you cannot look away.
