In 2017 I wrote a Magnificat as a response to Arvo Pärt’s beautiful Nunc Dimittis for The Cantus Ensemble, (you can see a perusal score video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWjYo32mGKs.

This then left me with a Magnificat with no Nunc Dimittis so here it is! I hope you enjoy it...

Similarly to the Pärt influenced Magnificat the Nunc Dimittis features fluidity of rhythm, entirely driven by the words that gives rise to the ever shifting bar lengths and the use of chords not grounded in the root note.

Above all I hope it is enjoyable both to sing and to listen to, that it will find a place as a partner to my Magnificat within the Liturgy and that it reflects something of the beauty and timelessness of Pärt’s music.
