Program Notes: "In the Field I Felt..." is a three-movement suite for piano, flute, and clarinet inspired by the changing weather patterns of an open mountain field, specifically the Whiteside Cove in southwestern North Carolina. The suite's three movements—"Wind", "Rain", and "Sunrays"—each explore a different weather phenomenon, translating it into what I imagine it would sound like through music. The first movement, "Wind", evokes the currents sweeping across the floor of a field. Long, flowing gestures in the piano and delicate, whispering textures in the winds are contrasted with surges of energy, mirroring the unpredictable and vast nature of wind. Throughout the piece, the flutist and clarinetist use extended techniques, like blowing into their instruments without producing a defined pitch, to create airy, wind-like timbres that remind me of the "whooshing" sound of gusts. This piece is a tribute to the beauty of the Whiteside Cove both in a physical sense, as well as a source for my musical inspiration.

Bass Clarinet was not available so the clarinet is pitched an octave higher during that section
Minor piano adjustments were made in few sections
