Countermass is based on the idea of a solo voice trying to break free from the mass (of sound). Although it is part of the structure, through its persistent urgency and intensity it alters the surrounding structure and searches for a space where it can breathe freely.
The harmonic structure of Countermass is based on higher natural harmonics that stem from the fundamental pulsation. Given the frequent changes in pulsation, and thus of the fundamental tone itself, as well as the nature of complex rhythmic gestures and tempi, I recommend perceiving and playing all microtones as 1/6 tone.
