Esteban Paredes — Passacaglia for Solo Organ (2025) — 7'

Passacaglia for Solo Organ subverts tradition from the very first note: the basso ostinato is not a European theme, but a melody rooted in the Andean musical tradition of Peru, bringing an unexpected identity to a form historically associated with the Baroque.

Over this Peruvian foundation, the music journeys through a rich succession of styles — from the contrapuntal rigor of J.S. Bach, through the harmonic language of jazz, into the dense, mystical chromaticism of Alexander Scriabin, before arriving at a musical territory that belongs entirely to the composer himself. A personal synthesis where centuries of tradition converge into a singular voice.

This polystylistic approach is not a collage of references, but a deliberate artistic statement: that musical traditions, however distant in time or geography, can speak to one another through a shared bass line.
