Overdetermination II for Prepared Violin and Live Electronics

Overdetermination is a modular cycle of collaboratively devised works from the mind of Patrick Gorry. Rooted in the thoughts of at-times controversial French philosopher, Lois Althusser, Overdetermination is defined by Patrick as

“…an understanding of causation that is historical and social; attempting to understand that the socio historical forces that determine any given outcome are complex, overlapping and simultaneous. Yet despite that, can still grasped and understood by separating these overlapping forces; critiquing them in isolation to then be reassembled. Overdetermination as a series is the beginning of my attempt to embrace and consider such a stance for a compositional method". The resulting aesthetic is one of maximalism, extremes, intensity, angularity and a general interplay of a sudden stillness that always threatens to erupt and pure chaos.
