Aspect ratio describes the proportional relationship between an image’s width and height. To translate this concept into the musical world, time signatures could be considered the aspect ratio for music, substituting width and height to how many beats are in a measure and what note gets the beat. ASPECT RATIO explores all types of meters; simple, compound, duple, triple, and asymmetrical, along with the subdivisions in those meters constantly shifting. Written for double bassist Mitch McCardle, this piece highlights the rhythmic capabilities of the instrument enhanced by an electronic track.
