Three Omens

I began working on “Three Omens” in January of 2022. This was during a generally turbulent and uncertain period in

my life. I had spent the previous year on an overly ambitious piece of music that was never finished, I was artistically at a loss,

and was considering giving up on composition altogether.

Around this time, a rabbit started visiting my backyard on a daily basis. (we gave him the name “Bun Jovi”) I felt

comfort in knowing that, regardless of what each day would bring, Bun Jovi would always return as a symbol of hope and

positivity. Then one day an intense storm hit our area, and Bun Jovi did not return. These events inspired me to create the

following narrative, in which “Three Omens'' is based upon:

A rabbit sees a storm approaching in the distance.

The storm arrives with great force, destroying the rabbit’s home.

The next day the rabbit is gone.

An unnamed figure walks through the barren remains of what was once a safe and harmonious landscape.

Out of a dark shadow, the figure sees a face.

The face is from…somewhere else.

“Three Omens” was greatly inspired by the works of composer George Crumb. A month after I began "Three Omens"

George Crumb passed away on February 6th, 2022. I dedicate this piece in his memory.
