Variaciones en formato vertical

How much can the message change if we shift the focus? Composed for Mezzo Quartet in June 2025, this piece adapts the speed and over-information of social media videos to the aesthetic of a saxophone quartet.

"Variciones en formato vertical" is a piece composed of 8 short movements. Each explores a simple musical idea and develops it. The movements are: "I. #cleanlook", "II. #mindfulnessroutine", "III. #unboxing", "IV. #ad", "V. #healthyfood", "VI. #minimalism", "VII. #genderreveal", and "VIII. #housetour". Each of these movements is inspired by a typical social media action, translated into a musical language that reflects the speed and immediacy of these platforms.

This piece was composed as part of the Artistic Residency organized by Juventudes Musicales de España, the Ministry of Youth and Children, and the SGAE Foundation.

It premiered on 11.07.25 at ViMMa – Vivero Musical de Málaga.
