Composed in 2001, Abertura Dramática ("Dramatic Overture") holds a special place in Travassos’s catalog as his first large-scale symphonic work. The piece was directly inspired by his formative experiences performing with the Banda Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo. Written with an intimate understanding of the sonic power and expressive nuances of large wind, brass, and percussion sections, the overture serves as both a showcase of instrumental virtuosity and a deeply cinematic musical narrative.
