Hanami [花見] is a little song I wrote as a baptism gift for my goddaughter, Maria Flor. Sort of a piano lullaby, just one minute long. Inspiration comes in many ways and forms — from affection and care, a shared glance, a sunset, the waves of the sea and all the beautiful things I carry with me to share. It seeks to be a musical smile for both the good and bad moments of those who listen to it, just like a flower is nature’s smile. The Japanese word Hanami means the contemplation of the beauty and growth of flowers. Hanami festivals are held every year during the blooming of the Sakura [桜] — cherry blossoms known for being predominantly pink — with people gathering that week under the trees to celebrate and watch nature unfold.
