This piece represents a bit of a compositional challenge to me. The idea is to create a concept in which the ensemble is at the center of the agency of time, the embodiment and active element of the piece. The players cue each other and listen to each other, signaling actions, gestures and choosing tempos freely, each with their own pace inside of the collective performance. The organization of cues and management is entirely up to the ensemble’s preferences: all the score markings are a proposition, you can decide freely whether to cue or listen and react etc. The real core of the piece is the atmosphere you create. The material is thin, fragile, imprecise and skeletal, it needs to be taken and played calmly. This piece is to be performed and perceived slowly, giving each and every instance time to unfold organically. Precision is not of essence here, the focus should be on the interaction, pacing and the unraveling of events.
