Behold, I Build an House

Behold, I Build an House was composed as a commission for the opening of the Forbes Center for the Performing Arts in Harrisonburg, Virginia, and premiered in its opening season by the James Madison University Chorale and Brass Ensemble. The commission called for any interesting double pairing; to use the same instrumentation at John Rutter’s Gloria and the same text as Lukas Foss’ Behold. The three pieces were performed on the same concert in a sort of Venn diagram overlapping, and either pairing remains a suitable programming decision.
