Elegies of Sanctity III – Luminous Whispers of the Unwritten is an immersive audiovisual performance that reimagines the UK’s ruined churches through a poetic synthesis of sound, digital art, and architecture. Developed in collaboration with visual artist Cainy Yiru Yan, the work invites audiences into a contemplative encounter with time, memory, and nature’s quiet reclamation. It offers a fresh perspective on historic religious structures, foregrounding the singular beauty of derelict spaces gradually reclaimed by the natural world.
A live string quartet, a Spirio high-resolution player piano, electronics, and spatial sound blend with field recordings captured on-site in ruins such as St Dunstan-in-the-East and Netley Abbey. Advanced LiDAR scanning and nuanced visual projections subtly reconstruct these abandoned architectures, inviting audiences to rediscover their evolving beauty.
By seamlessly merging sound, technology, and visual art, Elegies of Sanctity offers a meditative reflection on the passage of time, nature’s gentle reclamation, and the enduring resonance of spiritual space.
