Shofar I-A Fanfare for Small Orchestra

Shofar I is a short fanfare-like work based on the series of blasts played by the ram's horn at Rosh Hashanah(Jewish New Year) and at the conclusion of the day-long service on Yom Kippur(Day of Atonement).

The shofar blowing involves a series of three types of blasts:

Tekiah, a long interrupted note, Shevarim, a series of three short notes and Teruah, consisting of at least nine piercing staccato bursts.

Shofar I ends with Tekiah Gedolah, an extra long blast.
