In many ways, Choro à Meia-Noite is my love letter to a genre I have admired for its extraordinary blend of lyricism, rhythmic energy, and virtuosity: the Brazilian Choro. The piece begins in what I imagined as dappled moonlight, fragments of light and shadow shifting across the music's surface. Gradually, the gestures and character of choro emerge more clearly, dissolve again into the night, and finally shimmer in a release of pent-up energy at the conclusion of the dance.
