At the end of last year I was working on a conceptual piece for mixed ensemble and felt that I had worked myself into a creative corner. While on a family beach holiday, I decided to take a break from that work and do something as different as possible, and created this short work in a highly conventional classical style. Its charm and straightforward appeal helped recalibrate my creative energy.
It is in three movements:
Allegro - a conventional sonata-allegro form (0:00 - 4:52)
Andante - theme and variations (4:52 - 9:55)
A short scherzo (9:55 - 12:39)
