"Skinscape IV” is the fourth in a series of works that examine the interaction between a soloist and an electronic, disembodied version of their instrument: the transformation of something intimately familiar into something processed and alien. Exclusively derived from recorded snare drum samples recorded by the composer, the electronics transform the sounds capable of being made by the soloist. The work then functions as a kind of duet between the performer and a distorted version of themselves.
This work was commissioned by Ryan Scott as part of the 21st-Century Canadian Snare Drum project, made possible with the generous support of the Canada Council of the Arts.
Part of the album "21st-Century Canadian Snare Drum."
