This composition takes a spectral analysis of bass clarinet multiphonics and slap tones as inspiration to create small miniatures, each representing a world of its own. The miniatures, or scenes, are scattered throughout the piece like different rooms in a mysterious place, and opening a door between one room and the next can lead to a completely different microcosm. The composition process reminded me of the joy and excitement of the character in the French folk tale "Barbe bleue" as she discovers new treasures in the myriad rooms of the palace. But the analogy stops there, in case you were wondering: Unlike Barbe bleue's palace, there are no forbidden areas in this piece, and you can explore it in its entirety!
