Pyroclast

Pyroclasts are the molten rocks ejected from an erupting volcano. The timeline and scale of volcanic eruptions provides interesting application to musical form, as they have no clear climax and intensity levels are largely unpredictable. Like a volcano, this piece begins by rumbling, with fast arpeggios above the swishing of legos in a bowl. The piece subsequently goes through various levels of intensity, contrasting staccato, rhythmic figures with long swells to highlight the concurrent presence of liquid and solid rock in an eruption.
