Nostos - The Forward Echo

In Ancient Greek, Nostos signifies the journey home; in Kierkegaardian thought, true repetition is never a backward regression, but rather a "recollection forward." Nostos — The Forward Echo explores this temporal tension through the nuanced timbral palette of the Pierrot ensemble.

The piece unfolds from a clear harmonic foundation: an extended diatonic chord built upon a D major triad. Rather than being eroded, this initial sonority undergoes a continuous process of refraction and transfiguration. Through an intricate interplay of pitch, pale timbres, and micro-dissonances, the core idea is constantly rediscovered under shifting lights, moving as if through an open temporal loop.

Unlike a process of decay that dissolves matter into pure noise, the sound here retains its physical and luminous presence. The resulting echo does not resonate backward into the past, but projects forward: a persistent trace in which continuous transformation becomes synonymous with renewal.
