- Savage Sands is based on a poem written by Nicholas F. Accovelli, when he first gave it to me as I read it I was already imagining the furious piano part and strict march-like bass line that is present in the beginning of the piece. It’s a really beautiful poem that was a joy to transform into music. This was also my first time doing anything like this as well as writing for a vocalist. The human voice is unlike any other instrument I’ve written for and you have to take a lot more precautions when writing. Overall, it was a really interesting and enlightening experience. I would love to try this song form again in the future.
