Music on a Theme by a Thrush

This piece is quite literally based on a theme by a thrush; more specifically, a recording of a wood thrush's call I heard while researching the bird. I divided this call into two themes, the first half heard at the beginning of the first movement and the second half heard at the start of the second; the third movement makes use of both halves.

The music is not quite programmatic, though the first movement I nicknamed "Day," the second "Night," and the third "Flight," since those were the things I was thinking about while composing this piece. After all, what does a bird's day look like?
