Torque is the first of my works that explores a system of polyrhythmic composition, utilizing variations of timbral, rhythmic, and harmonic counterpoint. The result of this system is a staggered harmonic progression ornamented by morphing grooves and shifting textures. Written after bittersweet reflection on the longest suspended chapter in my life, Torque is static yet restless, dancing yet dead. The composition tackles the idea of endlessly waiting for a question to be answered, illustrating the challenges and distractions that come with it. This interplay of opposing forces creates a world where tension becomes the norm, countered by permutations rather than resolutions.
