Named for Naskeag Point in Brooklin, Maine, Naskeag is a reflection of a part of the world that has become like a second home to me and an important part of who I am. My family has visited Maine nearly every summer since I was three years old, and I have many fond memories of my time there. In writing Naskeag, I have attempted to replicate the emotions and experiences of my time in Maine through music, using a string quartet to evoke the sound of loon calls, a foghorn and many other sounds characteristic of the region, and melodic gestures that attempt to transport the listener sonically through this unique and beautiful region.
