Game/Play

The dualism of "game" and "play" described by Mikhail Epstein is the opposition of playing by the rules and free play without restrictions. The piece is based on ballet exercises used by the dancers as a warm-up. The stern voice on the phonogram commands the ensemble, demands ideal synchronicity and does not tolerate any deviation from the rules, while the ensemble is constantly trying to go beyond. At the end, the ensemble nevertheless achieves a microscopic qualitative leap: this is an increase in tonality by half a tone, which was given with great difficulty. This is what art is all about: the confrontation between technical exercises and creativity.
