Rondo No. 1 for Orchestra in C major, Op. 29, is a festive, celebratory Rondo in the neoclassical style. The form is ABACA with a coda. It was composed in response to the Braddell Heights Symphony Orchestra’s call for one-minute compositions for its 40th-anniversary concert in 2026.
The piece opens with a bright and festive tutti A section. The full Orchestra introduces this section with a melodic, fanfare-like motif played by the Cor Anglais, Clarinets, Horns, and Trumpets. The rest of the Orchestra provides supporting harmonies. A B section follows with much softer and more restrained orchestration. Here, the first Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, and Violins play the melody.
The A section returns once more. Next is the softer, more restrained C section, featuring the melody in the relative minor in the tenor register with offbeat accompaniment. The A section returns, leading to a fortississimo tutti coda.
