This is a piece inspired by "Ortiz the Musician" - a shadowy figure mentioned in Alejo Carpentier's history of Cuban music. This is my creative effort to render a fantastical idea of what Ortiz's music might have sounded like, based on a Folia by the composer Diego Ortiz (roughly contemporaneous to his counterpart in Cuba/Mexico). The end of the piece features an improvisation by Wilfrido Terrazas (bass flute), joined by myself on hardanger d'amore, which complements the written music.
