Commissioned and performed by the Milford Middle School Percussion Ensemble at the Ohio Music Educator's Association Conference in 2020, Basic Lit is a Grade I percussion ensemble for beginning percussionists. Focusing on the technique of the most common instruments, this four-part non-melodic ensemble takes young players on a rhythmic journey that requires no more than eighth note subdivisions. Students will enjoy unison playing as well as some solo features featured throughout the piece. There is also an optional snare drum part that can be played as accompaniment to the ensemble.
