Underwater Music #1 Two Lullabies is the first piece of a cycle about the dualism of water as a vital and death element. Two lullabies are articulated by the musician inside and outside water: one is very private and it’s probably my first musical memory; the other one is “The Lullaby”.
Â
The cycle explores the underwater dimension of listening through hydrophones, transducers and field recordings. Underwater the perception of the outside and inside world changes radically and an introspective need emerges…
Â
In the piece, the classical instruments are completely recontextualized and introduced by toy instruments. The “childhood of the instruments” is evoked and the “professional” instruments emerge from the water… The piece was commissioned by the Förderpreise der Leipzig Stiftung and was nominated by the Gaudeamus Award 2024.
