On March 20, 2025, my father-in-law passed away young and unexpectedly.
To know John Wheatley Barthelmess was a privilege and a joy. He noticed everything — the sun on the lake, the wag of a dog’s tail, a favorite song on the radio — and he never took a moment for granted. He laughed easily, loved fiercely, and supported his family and friends no matter what. Whether playing with his children, designing a home, bickering playfully, or jamming out to music — John lived life with a fullness and warmth that drew people to him.
This piece is a reflection of that life: the smiles and prayers, the laughter and creativity, the small moments cherished and the love that overflowed from his heart. John was a light in the world that was taken away too soon. This is my way of sharing his light, so that everyone might get a chance to know him.
