Sawdust & Cornsilk is meant to evoke a rural landscape without romanticizing or mythologizing it. This piece was partially inspired by a neglected and dilapidated barn near my family home. It is surrounded by creaks, corn fields, rock quarries, and a single road. This area, for me, highlights the thriving natural beauty of rural America, while also emphasizing the neglect with which it is treated. In creating this piece, I sought harmonies, melodies, unusual sounds and effects that create a sense of detachment from a single body or organism. I wanted to reflect the buzzing of insects, whistling of wind through corn fields, the swings of rusting gates, and a sense of unresolving tension throughout.
