This work was created concurrently with my trio piece “JIL”. There are several similarities in certain aspects, but overall they are very different: “JIL” is more fragmented in an extreme sense, whereas A[n], conversely, is more linear. However, some aspects—such as defamiliarizing familiar materials and the use of algorithms—are present in both works, although in A[n] the use of algorithms is implemented only in the early sections. In A[n], I shape the process of defamiliarizing the familiar through time and linear change (almost like a labyrinth); there is almost no structural turbulence that mutually interrupts the process. Defamiliarization here occurs in several aspects, such as modifying familiar material—by saturating it with color (through certain extended techniques), by widening and also narrowing it; by placing some elements like fragments (though arranged or formed slightly differently from before), and so on.
