Azalea Garden was composed shortly after my 18th birthday, whilst a member of the National Youth Orchestra of GB. It was first performed at the Tate Modern, London 22nd July 2007, by members of the National Youth Orchestra.
The Work was inspired by the painting Azalea Garden by the Cornish painter Patrick Heron.
This score is the only copy of the pdf I have, having lost the files on an old computer.
This recording is from a subsequent performance in 2008, at the debut concert of the newly formed Azalea Ensemble, named after this piece. The programme of that concert also included works by Tōru Takemitsu, Anthony Payne & Luke Bedford. The conductor was Christopher Austin.
