ainsi formées

ainsi formées (2024) is the fourth and last trio comprised in the eighteen piece suite for different formations (based on the pierrot lunaire formation plus one percussionist) and four channel tape I started 2008.

It is written for piccolo, piano (as percussion) and cello and is written directly for the ensemble Gageego!.

This is my second try with this trio.

The first version was played back in december 2021 (also by Gageego!) but the instrument constellation in this piece with one "high" instrument, the piccolo, and two "low" instruments, the piano and the cello demanded more space for the low instruments, and I had to redo, not really the form, that I tried to keep as much as possible, but the content, and more specifically the organisation of the encounters of the piano and the cello.

Since this is mixed music one need to take in account the tape 'around / behind' each instrument and the tape around / behind a 'low' instrument takes a lot of space (and time). So I actually had to really separate the two low instruments. A first for me.

This separation was needed in this trio whereas I already have the "two low instruments" constellation in another sextet. But there, it was possible to slim down one of the low tapes so that they could coexist. But in the case of this piece, to almost completely separate the two low tapes (and instruments) was the solution I found best.
