This electronics-infused art song relays the struggle of moving on, and the difficulty of facing adversity. The motif of the distant train and the pulsing, unrelenting guitar accompaniment evoke the subconscious desire to move forward. These elements are juxtaposed with the soprano melody and lyrics, which represent the internal feeling of tension between maintaining feelings and letting go of those said feelings. This song is dedicated to my friend Allison Wheeler who premiered the work with me,
and also created the cover artwork for this piece and my first album Portraits, Moods, and Places, on which this piece is the first track.
Electronics, vocal processing, and guitar effects were done in the studio. With a pedal board and sound system, it is possible to perform this piece live.
