- Program Notes
- looking past each other, a glance
dilates time as our eyes catch
i didn’t know it then, i don’t think
you did either.
each morning you threw a rock
in the pond and watched the waves
ripple across. there were less bugs
that summer
the birds, too, were made scarce
your eyes, transfixed, didn’t notice
murky futures and bright days
i held the opposite.
the first snow caught you off guard
while i already saw saplings
under the stars, we both couldn’t see;
what was imminent?
in the dark, my eyes widened
i found myself alone, with
you, the days draped around me
held in your time
mine fractured, it felt good.
your time was sunlight:
focused, condensed, searing. i
didn’t notice the decay either.
i tried my best to bend time
and keep us within glancing
distance is the problem, except
when we were close
something new and terrible,
brought to my feet every day.
and apart what seemed so long,
was so short.
