- Over winter break of my second year of college, I challenged myself to compose a short piece in 100 hours. In the coming April, I would witness a solar eclipse and being a closeted astronomy nerd, I thought celebrating the moon would be a fun topic to write about. Luckily, there was also a composition competiton at my college so I had some limitations to work with. In writing the text for this piece, I considered the times I most loved the moon. I recalled going camping fairly regularly with my dad and watching the moon with him while we roasted marshmallows. He instilled in me a love for astronomy and the natural sciences in general. The wonder I had as a kid I still have a bit of today. Composing this piece was meant to allow me to tap into that young version of me who saw the world with such curiosity. This piece tells the story of someone who journeys to the moon in a rocket ship, admires the moon as they approach it, walks on the moon, and then leaves for Earth.
