- Liner Notes For Sara Teasdale Cycle: I) I am not Yours, II) Pierrot, III) Let it be Forgotten Sara Teasdale (August 8, 1883 – January 29, 1933) was an American lyrical poet, born in St. Louis, Missouri. Her poetry reflected major themes of love, nature's beauty, and death. During her life she produced hundreds of poems and published in numerous magazines. Despite her success, on the morning of January 29, 1933, in her New York City apartment, Teasdale took an overdose of sleeping pills, lay down in a warm bath, and never woke up again. Her last, and some say finest collection of verse, Strange Victory, was published posthumously that same year. Teasdale’s depression was not overtly diagnosed or dealt with in her life. She still created the most beautiful and haunting poems dealing with the major themes of human existence. These songs are universal and written for a soprano who wants to express the sentiments expressed in the text.
