Un piccolo Requiem is a musical narrative that expresses the overwhelming shock of loss, reconstruction of their memory, transformation into celebration and finally resolution.
The opening motif introduced by the french horns expresses the melancholy of recent loss. The winds and strings join the brass to build out this motif to an emotional climax, drawing inspiration from classical and romantic composers Mozart, Verdi and Brahms.
The subsequent sections are a more modern interpretation of the themes inspired by mid century modern and jazz composers. Percussion elements are introduced: Congas, Drums Set and Bass Drum. These sections are an expression of exhaustion giving way to anger and finally fond memory. This is followed by a recapitulation of all the themes as a joyful jazzy piano, clarinet and percussion set that transition into a full orchestra finale with a tutti fanfare at the end.
Recording Notes
The last 7 months I have been working pretty much every day composing and recording a piece for full orchestra, Un Piccolo Requiem. Recorded as an Orchestral mockup, it is released on most major music streaming services and as a You Tube video.
